Is Adoption for My Family?
A family interested in adoption has many questions. First, praying about the decision is vital. Seeking God's will provides confidence and assurance that He has a purpose and that He will lead throughout the process.
Seeking out or orphanage sites and photo listing on the internet gives insight into how great the need is for adoptive families around the world and exposes families to specific children who are available for adoption. Seeing the faces of so many children from various backgrounds may spark that special love for a certain country or a particular child. These web sites can be very helpful in learning what the requirements are from each country since adoption laws vary from one country to another.
Is the Lord leading toward a domestic or foreign adoption? Would an agency, independent adoption or an adoption through the foster care system be best for our family? What age child would we like to adopt? Those are questions that can be answered only be each individual family.
Calling agencies or social workers and asking question can be very helpful. These are agencies and social workers listed in local phone books. usually under the heading " Adoption Services." Talking with families who have adopted can be very encouraging and give insight into what obstacles may be encountered. They can assure you that taking one step at a time will make the process much less intimidating and manageable.
